Why study Hesston College?
  • Graduates of this degree program are eligible to apply for a Restricted Airline Transport Pilot (R-ATP) certificate at 1,000 flight hours, pursuant to the provisions of 14 CFR Part 61.160.

    FLIGHT TRAINING PREREQUISITES

    Below are required items needed to start flight training at Hesston College

    1. FAA Requirements: The student must be able to read, speak, write and understand the English language, meet the physical standards for a third-class medical certificate and possess a valid student pilot certificate. The student must be 16 years old to solo, and 17 years old to gain certification.
    2. Medical Requirements: You are required to make an appointment with an FAA approved medical doctor to acquire your medical certificate. We ask that you get a first class medical. It is imperative that you have this medical certificate in hand before you fly. We can provide you with names of qualified physicians in your area or you can visit the following informative websites on aviation medicals located at The FAA’s Find an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) They may help answer questions you have.
    3. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Requirements: We are required to verify proof of U.S. citizenship. We need to see an ORIGINAL birth certificate and a current driver’s license or a current passport. TSA requires us to see the original (we will return your original to you after we have verified and copied the documentation).If you are not a U.S. citizen, you will need to register with the TSA online at www.flightschoolcandidates.gov. This registration process takes approximately 1-2 weeks. Flight training will begin ONLY when we have a final approval from the TSA.

Please send the following:

high school transcripts

high school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary studies (for those who have completed secondary studies at the time of application)

national exam scores

college or university transcripts, if applicable

A professional transcript evaluation may be required. This will be at the cost of the applicant.

Evidence of English language proficiency is required. Hesston College accepts these minimum scores:

400 – Paper Based TOEFL (PBT)

32 – Internet Based TOEFL (iBT)

4.5 – International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

350 – TOEIC

2.5 – International Test of English Proficiency (iTEP)

54 – Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB)

Pre-2 – STEP EIKEN test

700 – Global Test of English Communication-Based Testing (GTEC CBT) Japan

70 – DuoLingo*

24 – Pearson Test of English (PTE)

Successful completion of Level 4 at an ELS Language Center

Hesston College waives the English proficiency test score requirement in the following situations:

Student is a native English speaker

Student attended a U.S. high school*

Student attended a high school or university in which all classes were taught in English*

Items marked with a * meet acceptance requirement but an Institutional English proficiency test will be required on arrival for class placement. There is not charge to the student for this test.

A phone or video interview may be required.

Evidence of adequate financial resources (bank statement, letter, etc), which shows the availability of funds for a minimum of the first year of study at Hesston College. Additionally, any sponsors involved supporting a student financially will be required to provide the Hesston College International Admissions office a letter of financial commitment to the student.

Scholarships for International Students

Available International Scholarships

International Scholarship. . . . .$8,000

All international students will receive an International Scholarship. The amount varies according to the economy and exchange rate of the country and the personal need of the student. The student is automatically qualified for this scholarship by applying to Hesston College.

Academic Scholarship. . . . .$6,000 to $15,000

The amount of this scholarship is dependent on the student’s high school grade point average. The student is automatically qualified for this scholarship by applying to Hesston College and submitting high school transcripts.

Advanced English Scholarship. . . . .$2,000

This scholarship is awarded to any student who achieves above the following English proficiency test scores:

The student is automatically qualified for this scholarship by applying to Hesston College and submitting English proficiency test score.

The student must submit video of performance and/or reference from an instructor or coach to be considered for eligibility. Activity scholarships are given to the top recruited students in each activity.

Schowalter Foundation Scholarship. . . . .starting at $500

This scholarship is provided by a grant from the Schowalter Foundation. It is awarded to highly qualified international students who have significant financial need. The scholarship is awarded as funds are available. Apply early.

Limited additional scholarships are available with specific award criteria such as country of origin, program of study.
